Like every year, Nokia is organizing its ‘Nokia Connection’ event in Singapore on June 21, coinciding with CommunicAsia. However, this time it seems to be special. We have unearthed a web site related to the event, which terms it ‘Nokia’s biggest event of the year.’ What’s more, the copy does not mince any words, when it reads, ‘Join Nokia Connection 2011 to experience first-hand, the new Nokia ecosystem that will be introduced to the world.’
Digging a bit deeper, we found that none other than Nokia’s CEO, Stephen Elop, will address the assembled media. His address will revolve around:
"Mr. Stephen Elop will provide an overview of Nokia’s new strategy, including an update on the company’s partnership with Microsoft, and the resulting new ecosystem and the importance of the South East Asia Pacific market in the new strategy. He will set the stage for a number of exciting Nokia product and service launches."Elop’s address would be followed by Mary McDowell, executive vice president, mobile phones for Nokia, who will ‘cover Nokia’s strategy around Mobile Phones, including the global launch of brand new mobile devices and related services.’
She will be followed by Marco Argenti, Nokia’s senior vice president, developer and market. His address is described in the following words: What will the new Ecosystem mean for Nokia and what are the global plans for developers and apps? Marco will reveal all…
The event has all the tell-tale signs of Nokia getting ready to show off its first wave of smartphones running Windows Phone OS. And after seeing what the Mango Update for Windows Phone brings to the table, we are brimming with excitement!
UPDATE: The plot thickens! While it is quite clear that Elop and Argenti will be talking about Windows Phone and the ‘new ecosystem’, had it been a Windows Phone smartphone launch, it would have been Jo Harlow, the EVP of smartphones addressing the media and not McDowell.
